We are pleased to announce the appointment of Maurizio Vecchione as President & CEO of Washington Global Health Alliance (WGHA).
After months of a nationwide search, with the support of Valtas Group, the Washington Global Health Alliance (WGHA) governance board has selected from an outstanding and diverse pool of candidates, Maurizio Vecchione as their new president and CEO.
Maurizio comes to WGHA after almost eight years as executive vice president leading Global Good, a collaboration between Bill Gates and Intellectual Ventures to invent and develop technologies that address some of humanity’s most daunting challenges, with a focus on global health and global development.
Maurizio brings new ideas for a strategic and expanded vision for how WGHA can continue advancing its mission and have greater impact in the world. In addition, he brings a track record for leading organizations through transformation and growth periods. He understands the collective power of Washington state’s global health community and WGHA’s unique position to convene diverse players to drive innovation and collective impact towards health equity. Finally, his experience with Global Good at Intellectual Ventures was a significant strength and he has a deep network in the Seattle area and beyond. This will be critical to growing WGHA membership and partnerships.
Maurizio believes strongly in the WGHA mission, understands its community, great potential, and has an impressive track record of growing highly effective organizations. He is dedicated to championing WGHA’s thriving existing initiatives, like STEM Global and Women in Global Health Seattle, and elevating WGHA’s role with more members, new partners, and greater collective impact. He is focused on supporting and connecting members, including through his networks in government, research, and academia.
