Tom Varga and Christine Martin to Present at Not-For-Profit & Health Care Conference 2019

The WSCPA Not-For-Profit and Health Care Conference is an annual broadcast to keep you up to speed on issues in the ever-changing NFP and health care arena.

During the two-day conference attendees can select from different tracks to ensure that the information is relevant and useful. Options include sessions on GAAP, internal controls, advocacy, employee benefits and much more. The conference is also a place to mix and mingle with friends and colleagues at the networking reception on Tuesday evening.

OBJECTIVES

Provide Not-for-Profit and Healthcare CPAs and financial professionals updates and best-practices information in a post-TCJA world.

HIGHLIGHTS

Important WA legislative updates, including higher B&O tax rates for NFPs and how the state’s new FMLA and Paid Leave programs may affect organizations. Attendees will learn how to comply with new GAAP updates, most notably the recent ASU 2018-08 on grants and contracts. Plus, presenters will explore how data analytics/visualizations can bring data to life and reveal new opportunities for NFP organizations.

TOM VARGA & CHRISTINE MARTIN AT CONCURRENT SESSION F1:

“Nonprofit Leadership Transitions
- Planning Ahead for Leadership and Mission Continuity”

Christine Martin – Founder & Partner – Valtas Group LLC
Tom Varga – Founder & Managing Partner – Valtas Group LLC

Recent research and experience locally confirm that turnover for CEO/Executive Directors at nonprofits is between 18-22% annually. Data also shows that only 25% of nonprofits have a current, written succession plan in place.

Whether a transition occurs unexpectedly, or nonprofit plans and anticipates the transition of a long-tenured leader, having a plan in place can help a nonprofit weather the inevitable challenges of leadership transition.

The presentation will answer:
• What are best practices in planning ahead for leadership transition?
• What is the likely timeline and the steps we should take?
• What’s my role as a member of the board or executive board?

THE CONFERENCE IS DESIGNED FOR

CPAs and other financial professionals who work for or advise not-for-profit entities and/or health care organizations; professionals seeking to gain an understanding of current accounting-related issues affecting not-for-profit entities and/or health care organizations; professionals seeking to enter and connect with others in the not-for-profit or health care fields
