How and Why Not to “Do DEI” (Stephen Tan)
This workshop will identify the reasons nonprofit organizations should or shouldn’t embark on initiatives to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the characteristics of successful DEI initiatives. Participants will learn:
• How to create the proper mindset and formulate the proper approach to any DEI initiative.
• How to know when your organization is ready to undertake meaningful efforts to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• How to distinguish between effective and ineffective approaches to recruiting diverse candidates for staff or board positions.
• Why any meaningful DEI initiative must involve all aspects of an organization’s governance practices, structure, programs, and culture.
